Families spend less time together than they did twenty-five years ago.

Your gift helps to ensure that a family can come to the YMCA together and enjoy fun, healthy activities at a price families can afford. For families experiencing job loss, chronic illness, divorce or death, financial assistance is available for a Y membership. Kids can play youth sports or swim; adults can work out, stay connected, and find the support they need.

Your gift of $270 will keep a family involved at the Y for three months during a crisis.

Our nation is waging a battle with obesity. The costs include less productivity, higher medical expenses, and – tragically – a shorter lifespan for children than their parents.

When parents model healthy behavior, children learn a healthier way to live. Not only does the YMCA open its doors to individuals and families who want to live healthier lives, but also make a daily difference for patients from the VA Medical Center, cancer treatment and many chronic illnesses - MS, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, arthritis and high blood pressure. We also welcome organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters and halfway homes so underprivileged youth can enjoy YMCA wellness facilities.

The vital network of social support for older adults tends to decrease through loss of mobility, death of spouse and friends, and lack of on-the-job interaction.

The YMCA of Greater Richmond serves over 6,500 individuals who are 65 and over. For some older adults, poverty and chronic illness have brought isolation. The YMCA offers exercise, nutrition education, and arts classes to these individuals. Most important, the YMCA helps older adults find the support they need to live healthy and happy lives.

Your gift of $95 provides for 2 months of water exercise class for an arthritis sufferer.
